Dr. Oswaldo Ortegón Cufiño
Licensed Professional Counseling Associate
The life journey of Dr. Ortegón has been between libraries, and amongst people from many different backgrounds. He was born in Colombia but lived in Spain, Canada, and the United States. Learning about the complexity of human beings has constituted a challenge since his childhood. His professional goal as a counselor is to ensure the wellness of his clients with dedication and love. It is a personal golden rule he has applied even when he worked as a high school teacher and college professor.
Dr. Ortegón earned a Master’s in Psychoanalysis from the University of Leon, Spain, and a Master’s in Mental Health from The University of Cumberlands. He is an EMDR trained clinician. Besides his studies in the mental health field, he earned a PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in the same area at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He graduated with a Master’s in Political Sciences from Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. His multidisciplinary studies have helped him better understand our individuality and connectedness in the world.
Dr. Ortegón is fluent in Spanish and English and works with clients 14 years old and older. He has experience working with people struggling with addictions, PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, separation/divorce, domestic violence, and those individuals experiencing the loss of a loved one. He also helps immigrants to recover from the traumatic effects of the immigration process.
In his free time, Dr. Ortegón likes to read fictional Latin American literature, write, travel with his wife and children, and play soccer.
